Upon returning to the United States in 1980 after many years in the Far East, Dick and Cindy established Oriental Arts, Inc in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1982. This was a gallery and small frame shop in a large mall.
Already an experienced Chinese Artist, Cindy sold her original Oriental paintings from the mall gallery and local art shows. She also began teaching classes in Chinese Brush Painting while Dick took up the skills of picture framing, photography and restoration.
In 1987 the gallery was closed when Dick took a consulting assignment in California. Both contined to attend shows where Cindy sold her works and won many awards. She broadened her interest in art by studying sculpturing at the Antelope Valley College. She became interested in and started tutoring French Oils under, Mikail Albofahti, one of Southern California’s leading Russian teachers.
In 1997 Dick’s assignment ended and they decided to move to Flagstaff, Arizona, an area famous for its mountains, desert beauty -- in short, a Mecca for artists of all kinds. Oriental Arts was then re-opened. Dick invested in state of the art equipment and decided to extend his picture framing to the general public but specifically targeting artists and photographers who could take advantage of reduced cost framing. This became so popular that it was decided to open the frame shop under the name of Hale-Frame.
Today both Dick and Cindy continue with their endeavours in the world of art attending shows through out the SouthWest. We hope you have enjoyed visiting our new website and look forward to being of service.
